About Us

History

Horticultores El Torcal is a cooperative that belongs to the agricultural sector, located in the fertile lands of the Vega de Antequera, in the heart of Andalusia.

It was founded on September 23, 1982, as an Agrarian Transformation Society. On October 30, 1992, by agreements adopted in an Extraordinary General Assembly, it was subsequently transformed into a Andalusian Cooperative Society.

In November 2013, Horticultores El Torcal officially inaugurated its asparagus packaging plant.

Currently, it is made up of more than 140 members, whose agricultural farms are dedicated, among other crops, to the cultivation of asparagus, potatoes, and onions.

Our products are aimed at all national markets, as is the case with potatoes and onions, and at European markets in the case of large-caliber onions and asparagus, where these are leading brands in Europe.

Fulfilling our commitment to quality and service, which is increasingly demanded by consumers, we have implemented the ISO 9001:2000 quality standard in our Cooperative. At the same time, we have obtained certification for asparagus cultivation under the GLOBAL G.A.P. quality standard.

In the Heart of Andalusia

The region of Antequera, located in the heart of Andalusia, has experienced remarkable growth in its logistics sector in recent years, driven by the arrival of major multinational companies and the development of key infrastructures such as the Dry Port.

This strategic location, at the intersection of important transport routes, together with the creation of new logistics facilities, has positioned Antequera as a logistics hub in Spain.

Plant facilities

We are a group of farmers who work every day to offer our clients strong quality standards and a dedicated spirit of service. To achieve this, we have 7,500 m² of plant facilities, of which 1,500 m² are dedicated to cold storage chambers, while the rest is used for different processing lines, equipped with the latest advances in pre-selection, grading, and packaging of each product for its subsequent commercialization.

Committed to Quality and Service

Fulfilling our commitment to quality and service, increasingly demanded by consumers, we have implemented the ISO 9001:2000 quality standard and obtained the GLOBAL G.A.P. certification in our Cooperative.

Horticultores El Torcal S.C.A. has received a grant from the European Union under the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development for the improvement and modernization of packaging processes and digital archiving.

An incentive has also been received from the Andalusian Innovation and Development Agency IDEA, part of the Regional Government of Andalusia, amounting to €56,747.57, co-financed 80% by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), for the implementation of the High-Efficiency Self-consumption Photovoltaic Installation Project at Horticultores El Torcal. This project aims to promote a cleaner and more sustainable economy.

Horticultores El Torcal S.C.A. has also received a grant from the European Union under the ERDF Operational Programme for Andalusia 2014-2020, financed as part of the EU’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic (REACT-EU), to compensate for increased natural gas and/or electricity costs faced by SMEs and self-employed workers particularly affected by rising energy prices due to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
